Dr. S Ranganathan
Anyone who reads or listens to Mahabharata narratives would wonder why Yudhishthira has agreed to play the game of dice with Kaurava prince Duryodhana and his most deceitful uncle - Shakuni.
Was Yudhishthira not aware of the cunning ploy of Duryadhana well before? Certainly, the answer would yes and the Yudhishthira might have known the ploy of Shakuni very well. But still, he agreed maybe because that is how the human mind works.
Human beings can sometimes behave worst than the beast or can behave greater than the God. It can be bad, clever, cunning, angry, revengeful, deceitful, noble and poise. When the mind is angry, agitated, feeling let down, naturally, the same mind would trigger a revolt, rebellion, and revenge. People with such minds are taught to engage in certain actions without any foresight, bothering or worrying about the consequences.
Yudhishthira also would have been in the same state of mind when agreed to play the game of dice with Sakuni. Perhaps the turbulent mind of Yudhishthira would have counted some fortunes in the game of dice that he agreed to play to recoup all the losses that the Pandavas have suffered. But indeed he lost the game and everything.
The recent outburst of the four guardians of democracy over the institution that they serve shows nothing but the same state of mind of Yudhishthira; falling victims to Shakuni. Yudhishthira would have hoped some fortune out of his game so was the guardians of democracy but both lost the game.
When the guardians of democracy jumped into the well with anger and revenge against the institution that they serve, indeed it had shamed India. But more than our known and listed enemy countries overjoyed at the turmoil, some opposition parties in India were happy and overjoyed because they were trying their luck from such divided house despite knowing fully well that such division would indeed harm the nation.
The guardians of democracy might have made their calculations that Indian might stand with them but quite contrary to such expectations, the matured and wise India stood away from it, however, was watching carefully to know who plays the role of Duryodhana, Shakuni, Dushashana etc.
The Kurushetra was reported to have happened 5000 years ago but even today India has neither forgiven nor forgotten the evil forces such as Shakuni, Duryodhanaa, and Dushashana.
People from high office at least at perception level, should not fall victims to politicians. Correcting the politicians in India is not possible but can be isolated and made jobless by rejecting them. But the officials before resent, must ask what, why, how they are going to achieve their goal and finally at what cost.
Many sensitive cases were heard in the past by benches in Supreme Court formed by junior judges but in all those cases no one had any questions or doubt but when suddenly the posting of Justice Loya came up, most of the lobbies want to create doubts and suspicion in the minds of democracy and they have even traveled to an extent to castigate doubts on the integrity of their fellow colleagues.
Yudhishthira lost the game due to the cunningness of Shakuni but the in this present theatrics, people lost the game due to own selfish and tainted intentions and over trusting some un-trustable politicians.
The message of Mahabharat is not about having delusion and anger but never trust cunning, clever, selfish people and spell your action. Never harm the longstanding credibility and reputation of the institution in the name of resenting or correcting it.
